Francisco “Dodong” Nemenzo (1935-2024) was a distinguished political scientist and Marxist scholar who served as the 18th President of the University of the Philippines from 1999 to 2005. He was Professor Emeritus of political science, UP Faculty Regent, Chancellor of UP Visayas, and Dean of the UP Diliman College of Arts and Sciences. He received his B.A. and M.A. in public administration from UP in 1957 and 1959, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester in 1965.
He has published three books, The Philippines after Marcos (1985), The Sovereign Quest: Freedom from Foreign Military Bases (1988), and UP into the 21st Century and Other Essays (2000), and has contributed articles to local and international journals on Philippine society and politics, revolutionary movements, and international affairs.
