Examining the Impact of and Responses to Globalization of Agricultural Communities: Lessons from Community Responses to the Patenting of Plant Varieties in Bilar, Bohol

This research project funded by the SEASREP Foundation examines the impact of and responses to globalization of three local communities in the Philippines and two communities in Thailand. Using “everyday politics” as a framework of analysis, this research also looks into the courses of action taken by people and civil society groups in the communities in response to the effects of globalization. Participating researchers include former TWSC Director Dr. Maria Ela L. Atienza, Dr. Ruth Lusterio-Rico (UP Department of Political Science), Dr. Mary Joy Arguillas (UP Department of Sociology), Dr. Chantana Wungaeo (Chulalongkorn University), and Nik Abdul Rakib Bin Nik Hassan (Prince of Songkla University).
